The emergence of Little Italy in 1988 revolutionized the Barcelona restaurant scene. At the time it was not only a pleasant gastronomic, but over two decades it has been a landmark in El Born. A large chunk of its success is owed to its innovative spirit, which has allowed the restaurant to adapt to the times and changing trends whenever necessary. The new management at Little Italy has gone back to Mediterranean cuisine with an Italian emphasis, for which the restaurant has always been identified.
In culinary matters the starters really stand out, such as the duck ham salad with shavings of foie and roast apple vinaigrette: pasta dishes, such as Maxicaneloni stuffed with meat and foie as the signature dish: meats, including the Little Italy Hamburger New York Style, a real house classic; fish and seafood. The gastronomic offering is complemented by a wine list of over 50 varieties from the best vineyards in the country, amongst which Venta Las Vacas and El Perro Verde feature.
One of the restaurant’s new features this winter is an innovative cocktail list at reasonable prices (6 Euros). Here an extensive variety of Martinis can be found. It is said that the first Martini was mixed at the start of the 1920’s, in San Francisco and that it was the favourite tipple of celebrities such as Roosevelt, Churchill, Hemmingway and James Bond. The list also features a section of more traditional cocktails with a mojito theme, incorporating innovative mixes of strawberry and mango. In this part of the city, with a certain New York Soho feel, music is essential. Every Thursday night Little Italy offers live jazz nights.
